Antique Late 17th Century Italian Renaissance type Wrought iron Fountain Water Spout in the form of a Stylised Wolf Head (after medieval culverin cannons) with feathered mane and beaded collar finished with a reeded stem and circular escutcheon for mounting to a stone wall, this fine piece came out of Italy some time ago and would have been one of a number surrounding a large drinking Water Fountain in an italian Town or similar. This is an original piece, there are Reproductions around that have been fashioned after this one but they come nowhere close to the quality and weight of this original. The Spout measures 58.5 cm in length with a barrel diameter of roughly 5 cm, the Wolf head measures 13 cm x 7 cm x 7 cm and has a mouth opening measuring roughly 4.5 cm in diameter, the water hole flush to the wall mounting escutcheon measures roughly 5 cm in diameter. The Iron has a lovely dark patina from age and shows water pitting throughout as well as erosion to the interior commensurate with age and previous use, the spout likely has another 300 years of life left in it so well within ones lifetime of enjoyment unless of course one be a Necromancer or Liche or indeed Vampire or similar.
Will restore well with a home fountain or indeed could be worked into modern plumbing in the garden to serve as a fabulous decorators piece.
